Planning on a bus trip in Houston Texas?

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Every year, Houston will draw a large crowd of local travelers and foreign tourists during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It has been reported that more than 2 million people visit the Houston Astrodome whenever the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is on - it's not surprising at all because you don't get to see this kind of show (of this magnitude) anywhere else. Only in Houston , you see.

The Story Behind The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Despite the size of this event today, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have very humble beginnings. It al started when seven men met up in 1931 to discuss how they could help improve the cattle industry. ever since then, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has grown by leaps and bounds. Now, more than 75 years later, reportedly 1 million entries are shown in junior, youth and open livestock and horse shows. And that's not all because ever since 1942, $8,862,000 has been awarded to 17,522 young Texans in the form of certificates and bonuses through the calf scramble. One of the main reason why The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is ever so popular is because they have a Wine Competition during this time too - and the Wine Competition alone draws more than 1,200 entries from approximately 400 wineries all around the world.

2007's The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will mark the 75th Anniversary for this money-magnet event because The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is always packed with concerts (pop and orchestral) and fireworks. The event creates a lot of fanfare and because of this, it is a gem to the travel and tourism industry because it never fails to bring in large crowds of people from all over the world. That is why in past years, singers, songwriters and musical legends have performed during The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo before.for example, Elvis Presley, Sonny and Cher .

Giddy Up, Cowboy
Apparently, it isn't all that bad an idea to become a cowboy because at events like this, there are lucrative prizes to be won. For example, at The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, one talented and lucky cowboy will go home more than $25,000 richer every year. If he successfully wins the most prize money in two or more events, he will take home another $25,000 on top of other amazing prizes. Young cowboys from all around huge Texas comes to Houston at this time of the year to try their luck at taking the title home.

The diversity of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is enchanting
Although it is essentially a livestock show which is, traditionally rather uneventful, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo breaks the norm by having loads of entertainment for those who attend in the form Black Heritage Day and The Catalena Cowgirls precision horseback drill team. The Black Heritage Day is an a form of recognition and celebration that pays tribute to the contributions that early African Americans have given to the Houston . In the meantime, The Catalena Cowgirls performs routines before and after each rodeo and they're no push-overs even when compared to the guys. If you look carefully, you'll see how dangerously close they are to a charging bull. It'll make your blood chill up. As if that's not enough, there's always an awe-inspiring display of multimedia, videos, lasers and pyrotechnics display that plays to live musical accompaniment.
