The fact that this place is THE PLACE for the music scene, it pretty much makes up for the whole ‘space constraints’ disappointment. My friend grabbed my arm and whispered to me about how thankful she is that we got there ahead of time because First Avenue can get very packed during Fridays and Saturdays. True enough, by 9pm to 10pm, we were caved in by bodies of every imaginable shapes and sizes around us. But then again, there are benefits to be standing when there’s good music playing – you can dance, for instance. There are pool tables. Various video game machines and also pinball machines. Those are consistently occupied as well especially before the bands came on because everyone’s having their drinks and filling up their time.

One thing I noticed is that during off peak hours (we were there early), the staff were friendly and very helpful. But when the people started piling in, it was hard to get their attention at all.
