Downtown Tunnels - Houston, Texas

It’s hard to choose a description for Houston’s Downtown tunnel and similarly, many travel writers have found the same level of difficulty is classifying this Houston bus tour attraction. But this is one of Houston’s best kept secret. Essentially an underground walkway located 20-feet beneath the busy Houston streets, it has turned into a sub-sophisticated shopping destination for many local folks and foreign bus tour visitors as well. For a unique experience, be sure to make a bus tour stop at Downtown Tunnels, one of the most unique attractions in Houston.

Downtown Tunnel of Houston was initially built in the 1930s with the purpose of linking 3 theatres together through its six-mile run, it links about 80 buildings today. Some of the linked buildings connected to this Downtown Tunnel of Houston are Horwitz and Jines, JPMorgan Chase Center, the Houston Club, the Houston Chronicle Building and more. Despite it being called the Houston version of Chinatown, this air-conditioned unique shopping complex has got lots to offer. Above the tunnel, there is, of course, the normal stretch of streets but also there are skywalks linking many of the major buildings in and around the area.

Come to think of it, Houston’s Downtown Tunnel has been turned into some sort of a touristy place in our modern society, so much so that you can find tourists walking around at any time of the day. There are even tours in and around Downtown Tunnel. If you’re interested, dial 713-222-9255 for more information. Houston’s downtown tunnel is open every weekday from 8am till 5pm.
