As far as museums go, unless you’re someone who is really
into culture and ethnic origins and such, you won’t have so much fun. But let’s
just say that DuSable Museum of African American History is a little unique.
The reason for this is the award-winning photography that they have on display
there. During this visit, we booked ourselves a Chicago
IL charter bus rental package and took some
teens with us…for them to learn something from the experience and for them to
appreciate an integral part of American history. Our culture is so rich and
enchanting that it’s a pity if the future generation fails to see beyond the
internet and Nintendo!
DuSable is a salutation of sorts to the founding African-Americans
who made a world of difference to our culture. Their rich heritage is apparent
on the walls of this incredible museum. Not only were there photographs, the
showcases include paintings, sculptures and other original work on enslavement
and civil rights too – it’s like an in-depth look into what Americans were.
Schools and colleges often organize field trips to DuSable
in Chicago IL
and the students are sometimes enrolled into lectures, given a chance to see
special exhibits and attend workshops.
Is this place for everyone? I would have loved to say that
it is because of how significant this museum is to the American history, but in
all honesty, I think little kids and the older generation is not going to have
a fun time here. There’s a lot of walking around, reading and art appreciation
which is not something kids are good at. DuSable
Museum is only for those who are
into black history, or is curious about the museum, or is interested in the
culture and art expression that defies time.
However, take note that they organize a lot of fun
activities and star-studded events as well. For instance, there was a
star-studded event at the DuSable Museum
earlier this year which was the annual ‘A Night of 100 Stars’. It was a gala of
sort and it made me feel awful that I was not there for this year’s event. The
tickets became so sought-after that people were clamoring for extras, no matter
where the location of the seat was. To attend such an event would have been
incredible. If you want to take a look at their events and activities, visit
their website for more information and fit them into your schedule..
