Old South Church (Boston MA)

Previously known as the Third Church (I am only assuming that it probably WAS the third church in Boston city at that time), this 1669 structure is a beautiful historical sight. I don’t think it’s anything suitable for kids or those who are incapable of appreciating history, culture, buildings, photography and sight-seeing. The fact that there were many historical figures who attended the church’s congregation in the past makes it all the more enticing. The name list includes the likes of Benjamin Franklin, James Otis and Phillis Wheatley.

It was cold when we were there so thankfully, we had our Boston MA charter bus rental waiting on us and providing heat inside of the bus during traveling. The weather can be a bit of a bummer but don’t worry, the moment you catch sight of this building, everything else will be, pretty much, forgotten.

The interesting thing is that I found out that this was not the original location of this church. It was MOVED HERE in 1875 and is now a congregation of the United Church of Christ. Most of the time, the church is empty and you can practically frolic around to your heart’s content but if you want to listen to one of their services, visit them on Sunday.

The interesting thing to note is that most tour guides don’t make it a point to bring foreigners here because it’s not exciting enough. I beg to differ. It’s a magnificent structure and definitely worth a visit. There are lots of other historical sites in Boston MA but I sincerely think this church is deserving of, at least, one visit.

The reason? It’s simple! It reminds you of one of those old Roman Catholic Church Cathedrals…like something really out of a storybook or perhaps a page of your history books. You won’t be able to stop and take pictures of the beautiful stain glasses. Some of them simply jumps out at you and make you feel giddy….like you’re in a different time zone or warped into another dimension.

Most people prefer to skip Old South Church for Trinity Church, which is, I feel, a complete waste. On top of that, once you’re done with your visit to Old South Church, you can head on over across Copley Square. The atmosphere was surreal, there’s bound to be a lot of opportunity to snap pictures, you can listen to the sermon if it is a Sunday, and most importantly, it’s free to get in.

To get there in complete comfort, get your hands on an affordable Boston MA charter bus rental page right now or dialing 1-800-359-5991 right now.
