You can’t miss it even if you’re sitting there right in the
middle of the rented charter bus looking at nothing in particular – the house
is upside down! It’s Wonderworks we’re talking about, the one we went to was
the one in Orlando FL.
I’ve heard some not-so-nice things about Wonderworks before and was quite
reluctant to go in but you know kids (we had some with us during this trip),
they see an upside down house and want to see if they can walk on the ceiling!
On the website, the attraction calls itself a place where
science has gone completely bananas (not in those words) and you’re supposed to
learn everything that you’d want to learn about the world of science in the
craziest, maddest way possible.
In all honestly, it’s not as interesting as they’ve hyped it
up to be but still…the kids loved it! If you look past some out-of-order stuff
that nobody bothered to fix, it’s a great place to bring young children. This
is a museum of sorts too because it tells you some really funky thinks about
science that might prove useful to them in school. Even as an adult, I gawped
at some of them.
Truth be told, the building itself is the BIGGEST and most
AWESOME thing ever! But inside of this neat structural creation, there are more
than a hundred of activities the kids can have fun with which includes the
Bridge of Fire, the Mystery Lab and the Earthquake where the kids’ squeals of
pure terror can be heard while you’re queuing up outside to get in.
It’s not Disneyland for sure. But there’s
something to be said about how they’ve toned down some of the stuff knowing
that education and history is the main aspect of the attraction and not the
squeal-inducing rides. They’re not even rides. Yet, it’s really crazy and zany enough
for the children. And they get so excited that they’re running all over the
place for more and more and MORE.
If there’s one place that the Wonderworks reminded me of, it
would be the Mystery Fun House.
Oh, and then there’s the magic dinner show there – that was
great fun but the food is nothing to shout about. You’re there for the show and
experience, not fine dining, remember that, so you’ve got to cut the guys in
the kitchen some slack.
All in all, I’d say it’s a fantastic place to bring the
kids. It’s not a theme park so no water slides and roller coasters but it’s an
incredible way to learn stuff about science, I’m telling you.
