There's a good reason why a pub's crowded, it's either
the beer is good, the music's good, the service is good or the food is
good. Now, for Mahar's located in Albany , New York , they score 3 out
of 4. The beer's simply fabulous while the service staff are friendly
and on top of the game. The place is crowded like a can of sardines
every Friday and Saturday because the bands they have there is usually
amazing and the DJs spin a mean mix of music. The only thing we have to
complain about is the lack of a proper menu. But then again, who's
there to eat? But actually, their food is all that bad, it's just that
after hearing so much about this place in Albany, New York, we were
kind of expecting Hard Rock stuff.
But no, Mahar's serves your usual pub food.something to
fill the tummy. Now, if they did something to fluff up their menu -
now, THAT would be something else. However, Mahar's is all about the
beer.it's nothing else but the beer, so, I guess we got a little picky
there.
When we arrived at
the Mahar's, we thought the place looked a little too shabby in the day
time - ok, we were hungry and wanted to have something to eat before we
started the drinking and partying. They place needs a little scrubbing
and repainting but then we discovered something as night fell. The
people started flocking into the place by the time the clock chimes 6pm
or so.to a point that we thought the place was more of a discoteque or
nightclub! The people there loved the place and everyone's calling each
other by some kind of nickname and exchanging slaps, so, we assume that
this is a very close-knit crowd of people who came here every other
night. Which, under normal circumstance, would have made us feel a
little out of place.
The
floor staff were nice and helpful and I was taken aback when one of the
waitresses knew more about beers than me.but then again, she worked
there, I drink there.so..
As
for the interior of Mahar's, it's interesting and unique and it shows
that they made effort to make the watering hole look exactly like a
watering hole. There are amazingly cool selection of tap handles placed
all over the walls.which is something you don't see in other pubs in
Albany , New York .
As
far as beer is concerned, Mahar's is user-ranked as one of the top 5
pubs in the country - it's simply beer haven. And why? They have
sometimes more than 25 types of fresh beers of all kinds that is surely
to hit a spot with you. If you're not sure, get their sampler and you
can get drunk just from the samplers alone - we're not encouraging
that, of course. So, for beer lovers, Mahar's the place for you.
But
the only thing we noted that they could change, also, was the bar
tender. If the bar tender ain't the one brewing their beer, then
Mahar's should give their grouchy bar tender the boot. Some say that
the bar tender's attitude lends Mahar's their popularity. Perhaps.
