Stranahan House (Fort Lauderdale)

So you have a whole afternoon of free time and you are nursing a hangover from the night before because you guys rented a bus from a Fort Lauderdale charter bus rental company for a night of pub crawling? Can't blame you – Fort Lauderdale IS one of the most amazing cities to visit when you are happily on the look-out for a throbbing night scene.
The Stranahan House? It's nothing fancy except for the fact that it was built back in 1901. It's a sobering experience (pardon the pun) to see it in its complete elegance and we did not regret making time for this Fort Lauderdale gem.

All those photographs and beautiful antique (must be expensive stuff) lying there with turn-of-the-century decoration is very classic. Maybe it is just us but there is some sort of calm that we felt when we walked into the place. A very warm enveloping embrace – maybe you will feel that that. It is hard to believe that the Stranahan House was used as a post office in the past...such a waste, really.

And it is a breath of fresh air too because we just about had it with the shopping downtown. Spending entire afternoons trawling around in malls is good for only a few days...so, when we got the chance to pack our stuff into the vehicle that we rented from a Fort Lauderdale charter bus rental company and head over, we were more than ready for a little bit of history, quiet and calm.

The polite and very entertaining tour guide took us around the house and spun the lovely, romantic story behind the house. You see, Frank Stranahan was in love with the town's first (ever) teacher in Fort Lauderdale. He courted her feverishly and when he won her hand over, he built this house for her. During the tour, we also learned about the history of the city and what the Stranahans did for the city.

In this modern day and age, the house survives. And instead of being used as a post office and grocery store, it is finally, now, used as a museum to showcase some historical Fort Lauderdale stuff. On top of that, the venue is sometimes used for special events like charitable fundraisers, small concerts, parties and business functions. It IS kind of a lovely place to hold an event, actually. It sort of gives you that surreal feeling.

Thinking about organizing a Fort Lauderdale event in the Stranahan House now? Fantastic! But don't forget to book your Fort Lauderdale charter bus rental package early.
