Spectactular Carlsbad Places to Visit
Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park in Carlsbad is a large park which is mostly
pedestrian-oriented where a self-guided tour can take up to a couple of
hours. Take a leisure walk along the paths that offer beautiful scenery and
an abundance of wildlife which adds to the beauty of this park. Guided tours
are available for visitors who would like to tour the historic ranch
structures including the Carriage House, Tack Shed, Hacienda, Foundry and
Equipment Shed. The Leo Carrillo Ranch is part of the original 2,500 acre
working rancho and vacation retreat of actor Leo Carrillo. Within the
beautifully landscaped canyon is the 27 acres where the buildings are
located and have been stabilized, preserved and restored by the City of
Carlsbad. When first designed, the outline of the buildings were created by
footprints in the dirt prior to construction. The Rancho de los Quiotes,
which translates to the Ranch of the Spanish Daggers, is representative of a
man's dream to eventually connect with the proud memories of his past.
After enjoying an afternoon in the park, head over to the Museum of Making
Music that offers an interactive tour that takes visitors through a century
of innovations of musical instruments. The tour includes over 500 vintage
instruments displayed for guests to view and hundreds of video and audio
examples. Visitors can play on a variety of instruments in the interactive
area of the museum.
A well known adventure in Carlsbad is offered through the Biplane, Air
Combat, and Warbird Adventures. This is the nations oldest and largest
vintage air tour facility around. Peer down on the ocean and cities as you
soar overhead in a vintage plane and see if you can spot migrating whales.
Military pilots will fly you into a real aerial dogfight with you as the
pilot, or fly with an instructor and do loops and rolls.
If flying isn't something that gains your attention, then maybe the Carlsbad
Village Art and Antique Mall will have something that interests you. This is
a 15,000 square foot shopping space with over 100 dealers and artists
waiting for your visit. After spending time at the mall, maybe it's time to
head out to Dini's By the Sea eating establishment. The focus here is on
preparing mostly American food with reasonable rates. Dini's By the Sea
offers a wonderful view while you dine as the restaurant is located on the
shore.
Another interesting attraction of Carlsbad is the Batiquitos Lagoon.
Although it is surrounded by a lot of city activity, the Batiquitos Lagoon
is a great opportunity to see endangered species of numerous birds. An
interpretive trail describes the birds that are amore threatened and are
found around the lagoon. Because many of these birds are considered to be
endangered, visitors are asked to stay on the trail and follow the special
precautions as a means to preserve the lagoon for the birds.
