African-American History Educational Bus Tour

Tour the History of the African-Amercians in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston and Maryland

Our Tours offer an abundance of creative options at a variety of destinations shown below. These inclusions can be added to standard packages as indicated in this brochure or can be embellished to create a total itinerary.

Baltimore is rich in African-American history, and there are some wonderful sights to see.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is a great way to kick off your tour. This museum has 1,000s of artifacts and one of the best representations of African-American artists in the Nation.

Next, take a stop by the Great Blacks in Wax Museum gives your tour a fantastic opportunity to see great African-Americans who have contributed so much. This is the nation's first wax museum of African-American history and features more than 100 life-like figures, including Martin Luther King Jr., Nat Turner, and Harriet Tubman.

The figures represent various periods in African-American history, from the colonial era to the present. The Maryland Historical Society holds a vast array of period pieces from Colonial times to the time just after the Civil War. See an extensive collection of early American portraits, quilts, furniture, ceramics and toys.

Take a stop by the First Baptist Church which was founded in 1836 by ex-slave and lay minister, Moses Clayton, First Baptist was Maryland's first Black Baptist church. The church's archives feature manuscripts, pictures, articles and memorabilia dating back to the 1830s. Morgan State University’s James Lewis Museum is a fabulous stop featuring not only art works from African-Americans, but artifacts from Africa as well.

Another destination is the NAACP Headquarters where you can see the inner-workings of an organization that has contributed so much to the welfare of people. Hampton Mansion Slave Quarters is somber but historically accurate reminder of the past.

Boston holds a great deal of African-American heritage in its history. Start off at the Abiel Smith School, the Nation's first public school for African-Americans. Another great stop along the way is the Robert Gould Shaw 54th Regiment Memorial which is dedicated to the first all Black regiment during the Civil War.

The African Meeting House and George Middleton House are both significant in African American History. The Black Heritage Trail encompasses many locations that played a role in the building of this country through the contributions of African-Americans.

Philadelphia is a fantastic venue for exploring African American history. Your tour group will be treated to stops at the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum where they can see artifacts from Colonial times to the present outlining important African-Americans. Cheyney University is another historic stop. The Chester County Historical Society,Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church, and many stops along the Underground Railroad are highlights of this tour.

Washington, D.C. has a rich African-American Heritage to share with you!
Frederick Douglass Home is a great way to kick off your tour, then a stop at the Museum of African Art where you will see artifacts from over 3000 years of history. Bethune Museum & Archives has the writing of Mary Bethune who founded a college. Ebenezer Methodist Church was founded in 1806 and is beautifully restored. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library holds a lot of history about a very great man who was so far ahead of his time and his life so tragically cut short.

All of these cities are rich with African-American culture and history and just waiting for your group to come explore their bounty!
