Colonial Dinners, where you can sample the cuisine from days gone by. Authentic period foods are prepared and served in a manner fitting from the times. It was customary to pass your plate around the table and the guest nearest to the dish you want to try serves a helping on your plate, it makes for a very interactive meal! Carters Grove Plantation is a fully restored plantation and take a tour of the mansion. Like most old homes, it has a spooky tale or two associated with it. In the drawing room, better known as the "Refusal Room." It is said that in this room, George Washington proposed to Mary Cary and Thomas Jefferson proposed to Rebecca Burwell. Both were turned down because they were thought not good enough. After the war, Mary Cary saw that George Washington had won the war, and she went and tore up the white carnations that were a gift from him. As the legend goes, whenever fresh white carnations are placed in the room, they immediately begin to wilt and drop their petals.
