Mystic, Connecticut Aquarium Educational Bus Tours

Come and Tour the Fish and Ships of Mystic - A Lovely Seaside Town

Experience the outdoor nineteenth century maritime heritage of New England at Mystic Seaport Museum. This "Living Museum" is dedicated to the preservation of 19th century ships, customs, artifacts, and life-styles. But that doesn't even come close to the fun that can be had in this one day jaunt.

Mystic Seaport has a wealth of information and historical artifacts to share with you on this one day excursion. Everyone that visits this settlement is enthralled with what they find here. This museum village encompasses an entire waterfront community with more than 60 buildings on and near a 17-acre peninsula poking into the Mystic River. You don't just view the exhibits, you actually get to participate in them!

If you're interested in visiting the world-renowned maritime exhibits, don't just think you're going to be in a typical, run of the mill whisper only and don't touch type of environment. These exhibits encourage talking, questions and yes, in many cases : touching. These exhibits are a blast and best of all most exhibits you are free to feel, climb, hear, smell and even taste.

In the Ships section, you get to tour above and below decks extensively. If you have ever wondered what it really like to live the many months aboard a ship, you can now fully tour many types of ships and get an idea of what the day to day life must have been like for those sailors of long ago.

Go below decks on one of America's last square riggers, the Charles W. Morgan, or take a ride on the 1908 coal-fired steamboat Sabino. The Village Walk lets you experience the busy, bustling streets of our 19th-century re-created seafaring village and talk with one of their role-players. Visit a school, make up a malady and visit the doctor's office, or stop by one of the houses or lofts just to say hello to the residents. You will really feel as though you have been transported back in time.

Preservation Shipyard is where the magic happens. Watch boat-builders, riggers and lumbermen hard at work in our preservation shipyard, where the freedom schooner Amistad was built. See them as they restore ships to their former glory to add to the museum's already extensive collection.

Exhibits and Galleries are abundant in this facility. There are more traditional art exhibits and gallery exhibitions. These are full of information and glimpses of the hard life these brave people chose when ever trip was uncertain and certainly an adventure!

The acclaimed Voyages: Stories of America and the Sea is on exhibition, make sure to make a stop to see this compelling installation.

Other exhibits include: Women & the Sea, How Boats Float, Whaleboat Exhibit, Figureheads Exhibit including some fine examples of the massive wooden carvings from the bow of the ships. Benjamin F. Packard Cabin Exhibit is a massive reconstruction of the complete cabin of the Benjamin F. Packard. This beautiful restoration is contained within its own building on the museum grounds. The original 244-foot square-rigged sailing ship, more than twice the length of the Morgan and last survivor of her type, was built in 1883.
She was irrepairably damaged by a hurricane in 1938 and sat in drydock until her restoration began some 40 years later.

North Boat Shed doesn't sound like much could possibly be there, but your jaw will drop when you see their collection of over 400 boats many of them antique and span the years from 1850-1950.

Mystic Aquarium Tour holds a full day of fun, time travel and interesting things to see and do. Come explore this fun tour for your next excursion!
