Philadelphia Educational Bus Tour

Philly Fun and Historical Tours Bring Good Luck

Your guide will take your group on a walking tour of the carefully preserved landmarks of Philadelphia which may include the Liberty Bell which in 1776 called the citizens of Philadelphia to the Independence State House for the reading of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress.

The Betsy Ross House, home of the great lady that made the first American Flag is also a highlight of this tour. Franklin Court is located in the square where Ben Franklin's house once stood. As an interesting side note, Franklin's "privy pit" (the place where the outhouse once stood) was found when the site was being built and the pit, which long ago had been retired from use and had returned to simply being dirt, was excavated and numerous artifacts were found to have been thrown in, ranging from expensive whisky bottles, numerous carved pipes, and a number of tin boxes.

Christ Church is another interesting stop on your tour of Philadelphia and adjacent to the Church is the burial ground which contains the graves of Benjamin Franklin and his wife, Deborah, along with those of four other signers of the Declaration of Independence and many Revolutionary War heroes. You will notice there are always pennies on Ben's grave, it's been a long held belief that leaving Ben a penny will bring you good luck.

Also on this stop are Congress Hall and Independence Hall where you can see the meeting places for the Revolutionary War heroes and the prospect of being free from the ties to England was debated and where the actual signing of the Declaration of Independence took place. Independence Hall was also the original home of the Liberty Bell.

Your group will have a great lunch and then you may choose to visit the Franklin Institute Which is known as one of the finest hands-on science centers in the world. This fascinating facility has four main parts and literally something for everyone. The first section is the home of the Franklin National Memorial, where you can see artifacts and personal documents of the Institute's namesake, there is also an impressive 30 ton statue of Franklin himself.

The second area is the hands-on-touching-is-encouraged part of the Institute. There are traveling collections, such as "Titanic" and other loans from museums in this part of the facility. If you've always dreamed of driving a train, now is your chance! There is a 350-ton locomotive waiting for you to play engineer. Check out the Van De Graaf Generator in the lightening gallery and make your tour group's hair stand on end, and the rest of the exhibit is busting at the seams with Rube Goldberg gizmos and other creations.

The third section of the museum has an atrium, IMAX film theater, ramps and stairs that lead to new exhibits, such as "The Sports Challenge" which shows your body from the inside, as you participate in various sports."The Jamming Room" of musical synthesizers is a neat exhibit, and the "See Yourself Age" computer program in "Future and You" where you can see how you will look in the future is extremely eye opening!

The fourth section is the "Please Touch" museum where the kids can go crazy. This 38,000 square foot lawn between the two museums has play structures to climb on and swing from and touching the exhibits is encouraged!

National Constitution Museum is a large gathering of materials and artifacts highlighting how the US Constitution has changed American's lives over the course of its history. Another great stop on your tour of Philadelphia is the National Liberty Museum Celebrate America’s heritage of freedom by honoring heroes of every background. Learn about decision making, voting, violence and peaceful resolutions. See “We the People” musical history theater, interactive exhibits and art - all in one place.
