Washington DC Educational Bus Tour

Go Tour DC and Experience US Political History First Hand

Highlights of this wonderful excursion include The Capitol Building where you can see where the House and Senate have been housed for over two centuries. Nearby is the Jefferson Memorial dedicated to one of the primary authors of the U.S. Constitution and its third President.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a humbling experience. The highly polished black granite stones are simply engraved with the names of the souls who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. While you are there, make a stop by the Vietnam Women's Memorial, which is a beautiful statue dedicated to the women of the United States who served in the Vietnam War, most of whom were nurses.

The Washington Monument standing proud and tall is one of the most recognizable of Washington D.C. landmarks. The Lincoln Memorial is another impressive stop. A great monument to a great man. People are usually surprised at how large this statue is. Five average sized adults holding hands couldn't reach around one of the monument's columns. A little known fact about this memorial is that sculptor Daniel Chester French carved Lincoln's hands to sign the letters "A" and "L" in American Sign Language. Also, on the back of Lincoln's head is supposed to be the faint outline of the face of his enemy during the war: Robert E. Lee.
Another great President immortalized in stone is Franklin D. Roosevelt at the FDR Memorial.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is one of the newest of the war memorials to be dedicated and it has four very interesting parts. There are 19 stainless steel statues, each one around 7 feet 3 inches that represent all 4 of the main military services, all dressed in full gear. Then, a 164 foot long black granite wall with photographic images sandblasted into it depicting soldiers, equipment and people involved in the Korean war. The United Nations Wall, a low wall listing the 22 nations that contributed to the Korean War effort and finally, The Pool of Remembrance, a shallow 30 feet in diameter pool lined with black granite.

The Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, and take in the enormous Library of Congress, which is actually spread over three buildings to hold its stash of 128 million catalogued items.

The Arlington National Cemetery is a humbling stop along your tour. Veterans from all military conflicts since the civil war are interred here. Within Arlington is The Tomb of the Unknowns which is guarded by the U.S. Army 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The 3rd U.S. Infantry began guarding the Tomb April 6, 1948.

Make a detour to Ford's Theater,it was the site of the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. It has lived many lives as a theater, a medical museum, a warehouse and finally abandoned for nearly 30 years until it was fully restored and is used as a theater once again.

The Smithsonian Institution is a museum complex consisting of 19 museums and seven research centers, and has an astounding 142 million items in its collections. Another noteworthy museum is the U.S. Holocaust Museum. It is a large facility dedicated to the history and memory of those who lost their lives and families in the holocaust.

No trip to Washington D.C. would be complete without a photo stop at the White House. Immortalize your trip with a photo of yourself at the most recognizable house in the land!
