For the past 30 years, the Twilight Concert Series has been an anticipated event in Salt Lake City, Utah. The city sponsors the concerts to connect world famous musicians and local talent with local audiences. Their goal is to expand the public’s awareness through a high quality arts and cultural experience.

Beginning July 20, the Twilight Concert Series takes place every Thursday night through the end of August.

Little Dragon, Xenia Rubbings, Angel Magic — July 20

Little Dragon. From its humble beginnings as an underground secret, Little Dragons has created four popular albums and toured the world. They’ve expanded their art from dance music to recreating a blend of R&B, electronic and indie that makes them unique and they feel strongly about.

Xenia Rubinos. Through powerhouse vocals, drawn from R&B, jazz, Caribbean rhythms and hip-hop, Xenia Rubinos creates her own sound like none other that defies any known genre. She puts on a dynamic show and has extensively toured Europe and the US as a headliner and supporting act.

Angel Magic. Local talent that is Salt Lake City’s own, Angel Magic is a duo that blends soft, tranquil vocals with a layered, melodic beat, characteristic of synthpop, where a synthesizer is the main instrument aside from vocals.

 

Kurt Vile & The Violators, Whitney — July 27

Kurt Vile & The Violators. Kurt Vile, performing with his backup band The Violators plays songs falling into the genres of indie rock, indie folk and lo-fi. Kurt is a singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. He has released four solo albums.

Whitney. Putting their souls and heartbreaks into song, Whitney is an American indie-rock band duo. Singing drummer Julien Ehrlich and guitarist Max Kakacek both hail from Chicago. “Whitney,” is their combined sound, which they like to relate to as the all-encompassing band member. They formed the band in 2015. In 2016 they released their album Light Upon the Lake.

Kamasi Washington, Antibalas —  August 3

Kamasi Washington. Kamasi is a jazz saxophonist whom Kendrick Lamar says, “He is a magnet — whether it’s his stature or his playing, you can’t help but notice him.” He plans to premier new music when he plays the BBC Proms in August, his first new material since his album The Epic, which was released last year.

Antibalas. Members of the 12-piece band, Antibalas wrote and directed original music for the Broadway hit FELA! Since the band’s 1997 formation in Brooklyn, the group has played all over New York — Central Park, Carnegie Hall and even Rikers Island Prison. They’ve recorded songs that are afrobeat classics and are credited with introducing Afrobeat to a growing international audience.

Solange, Kaytranada — August 10

Solange. Solange Knowles will perform songs from her album A Seat at the Table, a project that she began writing in 2013. She describes it as “a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief and healing.” Her album made #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and on Apple Music and iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart.

Kaytranada. Haitian born and Canadian raised, Kaytranada is a versatile R&B Solo artist, Producer and DJ. He has toured more than 100 different cities around the globe and played at numerous major festivals. He released his debut album in 2016 called 99.9%, which was also awarded Best New Music by Pitchfork.

Cat Power & Special Guest TBA — August 17

Cat Power. American singer, songwriter and musician, Cat Power has toured internationally and released nine albums with her first album in 1995 and her last album Sun in 2012. Sun focused on themes such as self-awareness, global connectedness and spirituality.  Her music falls into the genres of indie rock, folk rock, blues rock, alternative rock, lo-fi and sadcore.

The Roots, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires — August 31

The Roots is legendary. The band received 12 Grammy nominations and has won four Grammys, including the Best R&B Album for Wake Up!, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for “Hang in There’ (with John Legend) and Best Group of Duo R&B Vocal Performance for “Shine.” The Roots was named one of the greatest live bands by Rolling Stone. They are the official house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and perform every Monday through Friday.

Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires. Charles Bradley took the top spot on Paste Magazine’s Best Live Acts of 2015. He has performed all around the world at venues and festivals, such as Coachella, Glastonbury Festival and Primavera Sound. This riveting, live performer of funk and Soul has been dubbed the “Screaming Eagle of Soul.” He has released three albums, No Time for Dreaming, Victims of Loving and Changes.
