Yes, folks, the season for America’s favorite pastime is almost here. As Major League Baseball (MLB) ramps up, the two main training locations, Arizona and Florida start buzzing. Spring is a great time to visit your favorite Arizona MLB training facilities.

 

 

Arizona Facilities for the Cactus League

AZ Spring Training Locaitons

Arizona has 10 facilities for the Cactus League, where MLB players train and practice for the upcoming baseball season:

Camelback Ranch. Located outside of Phoenix in Glendale, AZ, Camelback Ranch is home to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. Both ball clubs moved their training to Camelback in 2009. The ballpark holds seats for 13,000 people, which is the second largest seating capacity in the Cactus League.

Goodyear Ballpark. Named after its location in Goodyear, AZ, the Goodyear Ballpark is where the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians conduct their spring baseball training. In 2009, the Cleveland Indians returned from Florida to AZ for baseball training, and the Cincinnati Reds joined them in 2010. The Goodyear Ballpark seats 8,000 but also has 1,400 berm seats, six luxury suites and a party deck that holds 500 fans.

Hohokam Stadium. Hohokam Stadium is in Mesa, AZ and is the ballpark where the Oakland Athletics do their training. The stadium holds 12,500 visitors. After renovations in 2015 the park became the Athletics home for training. Up until 2013, the Chicago Cubs also trained there.

Sloan Park. Sloan Park opened in Mesa, AZ in 2014 and became the new home for the Chicago Cubs’ baseball training. It has the largest capacity of any of the Cactus League parks, holding 15,000 people.

Maryville Baseball Park. The Maryville Baseball Park in Phoenix has been home to the Milwaukee Brewers since 1998. Fans have a great view of the playing field through its recessed playing field and shaded concourse. The park holds 7,000 seats.

Peoria Stadium. The Peoria Stadium takes its name from its location in Peoria, AZ, which is in the Greater Phoenix Metro area, north of Glendale. Since 1994 to the present, it has been the home of the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. The stadium seats 12,882 people and lies on 150 acres.

Salt River Fields. Home to the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, this stadium is located in Scottsdale, Arizona at Talking Stick, which is the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. It’s one of the newer Cactus League facilities with a total seating capacity of 11,000 — 7,000 seats and a 4,000 seating capacity in the lawn-berm, which is beyond the outfield wall. It also has three party decks and 12 practice fields.

Scottsdale Stadium. The San Francisco Giants have made the Scottsdale Stadium their spring training park since 1992. Renovated with a new deck and terrace seating in 2006, the stadium is one of the most desirable parks for Spring Training games.

Surprise Stadium. Surprise Stadium is about a 45-minute drive north of Phoenix and is located in Surprise, AZ. Home to the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers since 2003, this stadium seats 10,500 people. Each team has a 37,000-foot clubhouse.

Tempe Diablo Stadium. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have made Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ their training home for more than 20 years. The ballpark seats over 9,700 people and has gone through two renovations with the 2006 renovation that replaced seating and upgraded the clubhouse.
