Consider planning your getaway in the fall, and better yet, charter a bus and go with a bunch of friends or family.

US News lists a number of locations as prime fall getaway spots. The following are their top spots in order.

Savannah Georgia

Savannah memorializes the antebellum period of the south with its elegant architecture and Southern gentility. You can stay at a bed and breakfast and take in the charm of the city’s Historic District.

The city is full of places to visit and a historical tour of homes takes you to the city’s beginnings in 1733 when General James Oglethorpe first dropped anchor in the Savannah River.

If ghost stories peak your curiosity, there’s a tour through the cemetery where Spanish moss drapes over the trees and your guide recounts tales about haunted sites. If you’re really daring, you can even take a tour after dark.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the fall has refreshing temperate weather that ranges in the 60’s. You can enjoy the rugged mountain trails and open spaces that are reminiscent of the pioneer days in the old West. While the city now draws interest through art venues and skiing, what was once a logging and ranching community has opened up to tourists and offers its share of luxury as well.

You’ll find it located near Grand Teton National Park and surrounded by forests. It’s a relaxing change of scenery from heavily trafficked tourist spots.

Charleston, South Carolina

Another area full of Southern hospitality, Charleston takes you back to the South’s pre-civil war era. You can enjoy the cobblestone streets, gas lit lamps, horse-drawn carriages and relive the 1800’s, even if only for a moment. Peruse the numerous homes that have become landmark museums. Visit nearby Fort Sumter where the first shot rang out, igniting the Civil War. You can go on walking tours and learn about the city’s history and also listen to ghost tales.

Visit the Battery, a section along the southern tip of Charleston with mansions that overlook Charleston Harbor and tour these neighborhoods, which were once the center of Charleston’s maritime industry.
