Old-school Attractions, Charming Art Galleries and Towering Bridges - Poughkeepsie’s Best Hidden Gems

Located between New York City and Albany, Poughkeepsie is also known as ‘The Queen City of the Hudson’. Although it was originally a Dutch settlement, after the American Revolution, Poughkeepsie became the second capital of New York state. It features some of the state’s most stunning railroad bridges, towering above Hudson River. After the land was bought over from locals and development was done by the first family of settlers, it quickly became incorporated as a city in 1799. Today, it is home to nearly 80,000 residents. The role Mathew Vassar, the founder of Vassar College, played was significant to the city’s growth. Many of the city’s earliest buildings, homes, historical landmarks are religiously preserved and many are registered National Historic Sites.

Today, there are countless attractions, both man-made and natural ones, to be found all around the city including the likes of The Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Marist College, Bardavon Opera House, Poughkeepsie Galleria and Springside Landscape, just to name a few. These attractions can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life and all ages.

They have been used as wedding venues, and places to hold business meetings, functions, exhibitions, birthday party locations, bachelor and bachelorette venues and also places to bring kids for their summer field trips. With these events, time is always of essence, therefore, it will make perfect sense to rent a charter bus, coach charter, mini bus, school bus, tour bus, party bus or even a wedding or prom limousine to help make moving around all that much easier, safer and more comfortable.
