  • Art & Cultural — Being an iconic part of Maryland, visiting the University of Maryland College Park will prove to be eye-opening. The beautiful buildings, enthusiastic students, lush gardens and well-equipped stadiums will all give visitors insight into what it is like to be studying in one of the country’s most established educational organization. If you love architecture and history, making a short tour around Washington D.C.’s Deanwood is a must. Located merely 5 miles away from New Carrollton’s downtown area, it is only 10 minutes drive away. This quaint, quiet, and one of the country’s oldest neighborhoods, the tour will take visitors around unique brick and small wood-frame homes, streets curtained by trees that tells of a unique Columbian charm. Many structures around the neighborhood were designed and built by well-known African American skilled designers and architects like W. Sidney Pittman and Howard D. Woodson.
  • Golf Courses & Sports Venues – 4 miles and a 15 minute drive away is Fedex Field, home to the Washington Redskin football team. With the capacity to seat well over 91,000 spectators, it once ranked as the largest stadium under NFL. The venue is also popular for hosting some of the best soccer, college football games as well as concerts and large scale performances. If there is a game going on, be sure to take the rented charter bus to do some cheering on of your own. The trail is a part of a larger Anacostia Tributary Trail System but the trails available at this location is a great starting point for those who are embarking on longer treks that snake its way around the gorgeous man-made lake. For long distance hikers, be on a lookout for connecting points that takes hikers to Paint Branch Trail, Northeast Branch Trail and not forgetting the challenging Indian Creek Trail. Facilities and amenities provided is a fishing pier and they are located towards the north side of the lake. Watch out for gazebos at various locations, picnic spots, rest area, recreational or exercise, restrooms and water fountain at mid-point of the trail. Be sure to check out Luther Goldman Birding Trail and Prince George Audobon Society which hosts bird walks on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month.
  • Other Points of Interest — Located slightly more than 3 miles away and a short 10 minute drive away from New Carrollton’s downtown area is College Park Aviation Museum. The aviation museum first opened its doors in 1909 where Wilbur Wright began training a new group of military aviators at its brand new airfield. The airport continues to be in operation today, making it the world’s oldest airport. With that said, kids will definitely learn a whole lot about this exciting museum and history of flight. The museum’s main gallery features ten aircrafts including 1919 Wright Model B Reproduction, 1911 Curtss Model D Reproduction, 1916 Curtiss JN-4D "Jenny" Military Tractor, 1936 Monocoupe 110 and 1946 Ercoupe 415D. Throughout the year, it changes its exhibits around to keep things refreshing for returning visitors and tourists. This is a great place to bring the whole family and is open everyday (except for major holidays) from 10am to 5pm.
